David Allen Baptist passed away on June 22, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL due to complications from anti-phospholipid syndrome.  He was 56 years old at his time of death.  He lived in Springfield, IL.

He was born in Springfield, IL on May 12, 1961 to Lawrence Baptist and Elfeda Haggerty Baptist.  He had six siblings: Brenda Baptist, Bud Baptist, Larry Baptist, Don Baptist, Kevin Baptist and Tina Baptist.  He was married twice.  His first marriage was to Kathleen McKarnen in 1985 and they had two daughters, Tiffany Baptist and Brittany Baptist.  In 2003, he married Tammy Baptist and later divorced.

He never finished high school due to his Lupus, but found career success in the culinary field.  He won several regional awards for his recipes.  He was featured in the State Journal Register as the next up and coming chef in the Springfield, IL region.  He worked in various culinary positions in his life.  Most notably was his role as execute chef at the Hilton in Springfield, IL.  His favorite workplace was at Doctor’s Hospital, where he spent several years working up until the hospital’s closure in 2000.

He was a long-time resident of Springfield, IL and Riverton, IL.  He was an avid fan of Star Trek.  He enjoyed drag racing when he was younger, camping with his daughters, cooking, working on his Covair, talking about cars, physics, astronomy and philosophical debates.  He was a DIY kind of guy and remodeled his home in Riverton with the help of a few friends.  His do-it-yourself mentality passed on to his daughters along with his other life passions.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brothers Bud and Don.  He is survived by his daughters, Tiffany and Brittany Baptist; his grandchildren: Ayden and Isahia Wagenblast, Michaela Montgomery, and Andrew Barling; his siblings: Brenda Baptist, Larry Baptist, Kevin Baptist and Tina Baptist; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life memorial will be determined at a later date.  In lieu of flowers please send a monetary donation in David Baptist’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America.
