Karan Faye (Shanle) Staples, 65, of Springfield, IL died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at her home in Springfield, IL. She was born December 30, 1953 to Charles “Raymond” and Elma “Louise” (Newhouse) Shanle in Lincoln, IL. Karan married Clyde William Staples July 30, 1976 and he precedes her in death. Karan was a graduate of Tri-City High School in Buffalo, IL and she then worked 15+ years at St. Francis Convent. She later worked alongside her husband Clyde for 15+ years in fishing lure manufacturing at Cast Industries, Cam Painting, and Froggies. She had a soft spot for children and homeless animals, and she enjoyed crocheting and fishing. Karan loved attending quarter midge races. Her competitive nature and sense of humor added to the fun in her lifelong card and dice games. She loved to cook and bake and she was dubbed the “Casserole Queen” to all that knew and loved her. She is also preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Dawn Marie; 3 sisters, Jennifer, Billie, and Donna Shanle; 4 brothers, Fritz, Spike, Jack, and Buck Shanle. She is survived by her son, Mike Staples; daughter, Donna (Daniel) VonLanken; siblings, Mary Shanle, Sue (Dave) Snodgrass, Jim (Brenda) Shanle, Barney (Dee Dee) Shanle, Mike (Theresa) Shanle, and Carol (Ronnie) Dennison; grandchildren, Jason Staples, Jeremy VonLanken, Amy VonLanken, 3 great grandchildren, 17 nieces, 8 nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Christian Church of Mechanicsburg, Church Hall (building to the right of the church), 305 S. Church St. from 1-4pm.
